Feel nothing but comfort

A game-changer for runners

I’m excited to share my thoughts on the Shokz OpenFit, the latest innovation in bone conduction headphones. If you’re like me, you’ve probably tried countless headphones for running, searching for that perfect blend of comfort, safety, and sound quality. Well, the Shokz OpenFit might just be the answer to our prayers.

Benefits for runners

Unparalleled comfort: Let’s kick things off with what matters most when you’re pounding the pavement – comfort. Shokz OpenFit’s open-ear design is a game-changer. The ultra comfortable and secure design allows users to confidently walk, run, and even jump, knowing that the earbuds will stay in place. These headphones sit comfortably just in front of your ears, leaving your ear canals open for ambient sounds, enhancing situational awareness. During a recent run, I stopped to have a chat to another run and didn’t have to take my headphones off to do this. In fact, I didn’t realise they were still on until I started running again.

Safety first: Runners, especially those who hit the road or trails, know that safety is paramount. With bone conduction technology, the Shokz OpenFit delivers audio through your cheekbones, leaving your ears completely open to hear traffic, pedestrians, and other potential hazards. It’s a huge safety win for outdoor runners. It’s also a great option if you like to tune into the sound of your footfall. Some runners, me included, like to hear the sound of their feet hitting the pavement as it gives them a sense of effort – and the Shokz OpenFit allows you to do this while also listening to your favourite tunes or podcast.

Premium sound quality: Don’t let the unconventional design fool you; these headphones pack a punch when it comes to sound quality. The audio is clear, crisp, and surprisingly rich, given the unique method of sound transmission. The OpenBass™ technology delivers a low-frequency enhancement algorithm that directly transmits low-frequency vibrations to the ear, which provides a rich and natural listening experience under any volume. Whether you’re into upbeat tunes or motivational podcasts, the Shokz OpenFit will keep you entertained without compromising sound quality.

Long battery life: One of the biggest concerns for any runner is battery life. You don’t want your music to die halfway through a long run. Shokz OpenFit shines in this department, offering an impressive battery life of up to 7 hours of listening. For those on the run, a quick 5-minute charge gives one hour of battery life.

Drawbacks

Limited noise isolation: While the open-ear design is great for situational awareness, it does mean that noise isolation is limited. If you’re in a noisy gym or a crowded urban environment, you might find it harder to tune out distractions and focus on your run. It’s a trade-off between safety and sound quality.

Ear protection: While there are lots of benefits from having the Shokz OpenFit sit near the ear canal, one drawback I noticed when running was that they didn’t provide -wind protection. Ear buds that sit in the ear have the added benefit of blocking wind, so if you’re prone to ear aches when running in cooler temperatures, then I’d stick with them.

Price tag: The Shokz OpenFit, while offering a unique set of features, isn’t the most budget-friendly option. You’re paying a premium for the technology and comfort it provides. If you’re on a tight budget, you might need to weigh the benefits against the cost.

Fit may vary: Bone conduction headphones have a somewhat unique fit, and not everyone’s head shape is the same. It’s crucial to ensure a good fit, so consider trying them on before making a purchase.

Wrap up

The Shokz OpenFit is a fantastic addition to the arsenal of any dedicated runner. Its open-ear design, safety features, and impressive sound quality make it a standout option for those who prioritise situational awareness during their runs.

If you want to prioritise safety and comfort, the Shokz OpenFit could be your new running companion, providing a soundtrack to countless miles on the road or trails. Happy running!
