On the weekend Andy and I spent three nights in Sorrento, Victora. We were there for a friend’s wedding and a little minimoon following our wedding on 2 October. I’d only ever passed through Sorrento, but I can see its attraction. It’s a town steeped in history and it has lots of great things to do, including going for a run.

Unlike me, Andy loves the ocean. He had a few swims in the freezing ocean water  at Sorrento and Portsea back beaches, but I was keen to get out for a run at some stage. Andy has taken to running lately. He doesn’t enjoy running long distances, so we decided on a 5km loop taking in the Mornington Peninsula National Park.

Leaving our apartment, we ran along St Paul’s Rd and at the top of a hill entered the Mornington Peninsula National Park. From here, we took Coppins Track along the beach cliff tops – where we came across a baby snake! – to Sorrento back beach and then headed upwards another 500m to a lookout with spectacular views of the ocean. After catching our breath, we ran downhill and took a quick diversion to run up to another lookout perched over the town. From here we ran into town along Ocean Beach Rd and then home. It was great 5km run to get the legs spinning. What I loved most about this run – besides doing it with Andy – was the gradual and steep inclines and decends, the added cahllenge of running on sand dunes and the amzing ocean views.

It would be great to go back here totackle a few more longer runs along the coast.
