While 1 June is the first day of winter in Australia, around the world it’s also Global Running Day.
The day encourages people from around the world to celebrate the joys of running. All you have to do is take the pledge to take part in some type of running activity. It can be a solo lap around the block, a long run with friends, or even a game of tag with your kids. The key is to share your passion for the sport and inspire others to get moving.
Today I celebrated #GlobalRunningDay by walking to work and at the end of the day going for a run along Port Melbourne beach. I recently bought a couple of new pairs of runners, so it’s been good to break them in slowly with a few short runs.
A lot of my pals ask me what’s so special about running. Some people can’t stand the idea of going for a run and that’s OK. But for me, my life simply wouldn’t be the same without my weekly runs. To me running isn’t just exercise, it’s a lifestyle. Running gives me a way to unwind, clear my mind, spend time with friends, get in touch with my breathing and body and challenge myself to push through hard times. It’s a ritual and it’s something I am so grateful I can do.
